Event narrative

Blizzard conditions developed during the evening hours of May 14th at Wales (PAIW). Wind gusts to 70 mph were reported at Wales, accompanied by visibility in blowing snow of less than a quarter of a mile. At Tin City, wind gusts to 63 mph were reported, and at Brevig Mission, wind gusts to 60 mph were reported.

Wider weather episode

A strong Bering front pushed across the West Coast and produced widespread snow, blizzard conditions, and strong winds from St Lawrence Island, through the Bering Strait and north to the Western Arctic Coast.
