Event narrative

Parts of two old white pine trees snapped off in a thunderstorm a few miles south of Norway. Pictures from Facebook show that some of the branches on the snapped off portions were dead while others were still alive.

Wider weather episode

Destabilization and strong shear ahead of an approaching cold front led to the development of severe thunderstorms over portions of central Upper Michigan on the 17th.
