Event narrative
A small portion of the northeastern corner of Lipscomb County entered the month of June in Severe Drought (D2) with a small area in the southwest corner in Abnormally Dry (D0) status, and Moderate Drought (D1) across the majority of the county in between. The are of D2 in the northeast improved to D1 during the first week of the month. However, much of the county remained in D1 to D0 status by months end.
Wider weather episode
Soil moisture across the northeastern TX Panhandle and eastern OK Panhandle remained very short to short going into the month of June. Beneficial rainfall finally showed up in June. This help bring improvements and got rid of much of the moderate (D1) to severe (D2) drought in this region.
