Lipscomb storm history

Resident count of 701 affected. There were 12 business that also reported economic injuries. Damages and economic impact also resulted from: debris cleanup (downed trees, etc), numerous downed power lines and broken power poles, and damaged to roads and bridges.

Large hail fell northwest of Higgins. Hail sizes were mostly dime size to quarter size, but a few hailstones were slightly larger than a golf ball. This resulted in damage to a fire engine that was en route to a wildfire caused by lightning.

A supercell thunderstorm moved across the eastern part of Lipscomb County. It produced hail up to the size of golfballs from roughly seven miles southeast of Lipscomb to Higgins. Quarter size hail fell about seven miles to the northeast of Glazier.

Lipscomb 8W mesonet station measured a 68 mph wind gust from a collapsing thunderstorm.

A swath of large hail fell from two miles west of Darrouzett to four miles southeast of Darrouzett. Hail ranged from half dollar size to two inches in diameter.

Baseball size hail fell west of Follett. This resulted in broken windshields o some vehicles in the area.

The observation site had dozens of high wind gusts from 58 mph to 72 mph, with the highest concentration between 1130CDT to 1550CDT.

Multiple high wind gusts occurred at one ground station in the county. Wind gusts up to 66 mph were recorded. The event lasted for about 3 1/2 hour.

The eastern half of Lipscomb County received 4 to 7 of snow with the western half receiving 1 to 3 of snow.

A mesonet station located 8 miles west of Lipscomb measured multiple wind gusts in excess of 58 mph. The peak gust measured was 68 mph at 1125CST.

The mesonet station located eight miles west of Lipscomb measured multiple wind gusts in excess of 58 mph during the late afternoon and evening hours with a peak gust of 62 mph that occurred at 1649CST.

One to three inches of snowfall fell across the county with the 3 being observed in Darrouzett. One tenth of an inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain was observed around 1205CST for Higgins, TX.

Four inches of rain fell in two hours leading to street flooding which caused some road closures in Booker.
