Event narrative
Measured wind gust of 59 mph at Plattsburgh Bay with numerous wind gusts in excess of 45-50 mph in the Champlain Valley resulted in several branches and/or trees blown over and knocking down powerlines and falling onto structures or property (vehicles).
Wider weather episode
The remnants of Hurricane Debby moved across western and northern NY during the afternoon hours of August 9th, resulting in flooding rains across western and northern NY but also some wind damage in the Champlain valley.
South-southeast winds gusted to around 60 mph in some locations with full-leaved trees accounting for scattered tree damage that fell onto utility lines and created nearly 10,000 outages in NY.
