Eastern Clinton storm history

Gusty winds around 40 mph caused a large leader of a diseased tree to fall onto a moving vehicle on Lakeshore Road in Chazy. The sole occupant perished in this incident.

Record lake flood levels as well as several high wind, damaging waves and seiche events caused considerable and major flooding of lake shore roads, residents and businesses. The flooding began April 13th and ended June 18th.

Elevated flat ice accumulations were generally 0.1 to 0.3 inches across the area with vehicle accidents being the main impact.

Several wind gusts in excess of 55 mph with scattered tree damage and power outages.

Snowfall totals for this event were 2 to 3 inches.

Dangerous heat across the region for both June 23rd and 24th with daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 90s and dewpoints in the 70s creating heat index values between 100 and 110.

Various mesonet sites reported wind gusts between 40 and 50 mph with some isolated small limb damage. In addition 2 to 4 inches of wet snow preceded the wind event.

Heavy, wet snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches were common in eastern Clinton with 10 to 20 inches in the Adirondacks of Clinton. Some specifics include 22 inches in Saranac, 19 inches in Schuyler Falls and 7 inches in Chazy and Plattsburgh.

Rain changed to freezing rain and accumulated to a tenth of an inch or less, followed by 1/2 to 1 inch of sleet then snowfall accumulating 1-2 inches created hazardous driving conditions.

Measured wind gusts of 45 to 50 mph were common across Clinton county with the higher gusts along and near the lakeshore. Twigs, small branches downed by winds were the main impacts as well as delays caused to the Cumberland Head-Grand Isle ferry across Lake Champlain.

Total snowfall ranged from 10 to 14 inches with much of this falling in the late evening of February 3rd to around daybreak on February 4th.

Bitterly cold wind chills of 20 to 30 below zero late Wednesday night (26th) through mid-morning Thursday (27th) and again late Friday night (28th) into midday Saturday (29th). Actual air temperatures were 5 to 15 below zero as well.
