Wider weather episode

Southerly flow and afternoon instability lead to some severe thunderstorm formation over the southern Cascades.

The threat of hail from these thunderstorms disrupted wildfire response across the area. Some of the wildfires grounded helicopter and aviation response completely, crews were pulled off of the line, some teams only worked at night, and some not at all. This delay in wildfire response is estimated to cost wildfire management agencies $750,000 across the region that experienced severe thunderstorms.

In addition, power outages were reported across the region Pacific Power reporting 6,290 customers without power and Portland General Electric reporting 3,700 customers without power.
