The Surprise Lake SNOTEL at 4280 ft recorded 13 inches of snowfall with the 12 inch mark hit at 0800 12/17, and the Swift Creek SNOTEL at 4440 ft recorded 14 inches of snowfall with the 12 inch mark hit at 0800 12/17.

A deep upper-level through moved across the northern Pacific supporting a surface low and cold frontal boundary which brought heavy snow to the Cascades.
