Observers in southern Schoolcraft County measured between 3 and 4 inches of lake effect snow over 24 hours and north winds gusting over 30 mph at times caused considerable blowing and drifting of snow. Manistique Schools were closed on the 5th due to the impacts of the snow and blowing snow.

Wider weather episode

Upper level disturbances moving through a cold air mass situated across Lake Superior set the stage for heavy lake enhanced snow over the northwest wind snow belts of Lake Superior from the 4th into the 5th.
