Snow showers developed across the North Carolina mountains during the evening of the 2nd in the wake of a strong cold front and continued trough the overnight into the morning of the 3rd. Total snowfall was generally in the 1-3 inch range across the counties bordering Tennessee...mainly north of the Smokies. However, the higher elevations along the Tennessee border received as much as 8 inches. While amounts across Buncombe County were lower...from a solid dusting in the Asheville area, to around 2 inches in the northern part of the county, very cold temperatures resulted in very slick roads from Asheville north on the morning of the 3rd.
