Drought — Eastern Greene, New York
2024-12-01 to 2024-12-16 · Eastern Greene, New York
Wider weather episode
Abnormally dry conditions across portions of eastern New York resulted in the development of severe drought conditions (Severe - D2) across portions of the mid-Hudson Valley starting on November 12, 2024 and continuing into December. On November 18, 2024, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation upgraded region II to a drought warning which included the counties of Greene, Ulster, Schoharie and Dutchess, urging residents to reduce unnecessary water waste, while the rest of eastern New York was placed in a drought watch. The severe drought in the Mid-Hudson Valley, drought warning in region II, and drought watch elsewhere continued well into December before conditions improved. The drought warning was the first to be removed with region II (Greene, Ulster, Schoharie, and Dutchess Counties) returning to a drought watch by December 16. Said drought watch then remained in effect through the remainder of the month of December with D2 severe drought conditions also persisting in Greene, Ulster, Schoharie, and Dutchess Counties through the middle to end of the month.
