Snow showers developed on the western slopes of the southern Appalachians during later morning in response to strong northwest upslope flow in the wake of a cold front. The snow showers continued off and on through the daylight hours of the 3rd before tapering off during the late afternoon and evening. Notable accumulations were primarily confined to the higher elevations along the North Carolina/Tennessee border, where 3 to 5 inches were reported. However, even some valley locations received as much as two inches.
