A long stretch of little to no rainfall led to severe drought over portions of southwestern Refugio County. Precipitation improved conditions to moderate drought and abnormally dry across most of the area by the middle of the month.

A long stretch of little to no rainfall led to continued severe drought over portions of South Texas through the month of January. This mainly impacted western San Patricio, southeastern and northern Live Oak, Bee, western Goliad, southwestern Refugio, northern McMullen, and northern La Salle counties.
