Ahead of a surface trough, 1000 to 2000 J/kg of surface-based CAPE was able to develop during the afternoon of May 2nd, combined with 30 knots of 0-6km shear. This combination supported the development of mainly discrete storms over eastern Ohio, which generated a good number of hail reports in the 1 to 2.5 inch range.
