Wider weather episode
Multiple days filled with afternoon showers and thunderstorms took place across West Virginia from June 25th to the 28th in the midst of a strong heat wave. The combination of abundant moisture and hot temperatures resulted in convection to develop each day during the early afternoon hours and triumphed over the area through the evening before waning with the loss of daytime heating. Daily storms were scattered in nature, and imposed strong to damaging wind gusts across the state. This resulted in mostly downed trees and power lines each day, leading to local power outages in various locations depending on where storms developed.
