Event narrative
Numerous trees were blown down in an area from near Leatherwood to near the Henry and Pittsylvania County line. One tree was blocking Reginald Drive near its intersection with Terrys Mountain Road. A few others fell onto power lines. A utility pole near Dyer Store Road was also blown down by thunderstorm winds.
Wider weather episode
A cold front moved across southwestern Virginia during the afternoon and evening of June 19. This front interacted with a very unstable environment during the peak heating of the day. The presence of moderate shear allowed an organized line of strong to severe thunderstorms to form and cause damaging thunderstorm winds around much of southwestern Virginia.
