Strong to severe thunderstorms developed along the North Carolina and Virginia Foothills and shifted eastward into the central North Carolina Piedmont through the afternoon hours. A classic summer time regime of slow moving downbursts resulted in strong to severe wind gusts and typical flooding concerns in urban areas.
