What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

An EF-1 tornado touched down along Rockport Road and moved southeast across Ford Road, blowing down several trees and damaging a few barns. Much more extensive tree damage was noted along Farmington Road where dozens of trees were snapped and uprooted in all directions. A few more trees were blown down along Shepherd Drive and a trailer was blown onto its side in the western parking lot of the Texas Instruments plant before the tornado lifted. Maximum winds with this tornado were estimated at 95 mph.

The wider storm

A highly unstable and strongly sheared environment set the stage for an evening of severe weather, as a line of thunderstorms pushed south from the Southern Plains into North Texas on June 8. Widespread wind damage, scattered large hail reports and a few tornadoes occurred as storms continued south overnight into the early morning hours of June 9.

Began near Hilton (33.5774, -96.6795).
