Event narrative

A brush fire started north of Hermiston around 1500 PDT and resulted in evacuations within the area. The fire also spread to a grass lot, with media photos showing several school buses destroyed.

Wider weather episode

Very dry atmospheric conditions and with sufficiently dried grass allowed a brush fire to quickly spread during the afternoon, resulting in area evacuations and destruction of property.
