Wider weather episode

An upper level weather system moved across the Southern Plains on August 29th. As this occurred, showers and thunderstorms developed off the high terrain of New Mexico and southeast Colorado. They moved to the south and east into the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles during the late afternoon into the evening hours. These storms became severe and brought hail and damaging wind gusts to the region. In addition, ample atmospheric moisture was in place, which led to heavy rainfall.
