Cimarron storm history

A man was riding a horse at Black Mesa StatePark around Lake Carl Etling and were struck by lightning.Both the man and the horse were killed instantly.

The Oklahoma Mesonet three miles south southeast of Boise City reported visibilities less than or equal to one quarter of a mile...sustained wind gusts in excess of thirty-five miles an hour...and heavy snow. Numerous cattle were lost in the storm.

This tornado remained in open grassland causing no damage. The only damage indicator it crossed was a powerline on E0330 Road which was not damaged. It did result in flattened grass along a portion of its track. The total track length was around 6.6 miles.

This tornado was captured on storm chaser video. It quickly became rain wrapped and therefore it is unclear exactly how long it remained on the ground. It appears to have stayed to the north of Highway 64 in an open field.

This tornado pushed a semi-truck off the highway into a ditch approximately six miles north of Boise City on Highway 287. This tornado was later seen by a storm spotter further to the southeast. There is no known damage otherwise with this tornado.

Strong winds behind a surface dryline affected Cimarron county the afternoon of the 18th. Wind gusts up to 66 mph were recorded at the mesonet site located one mile south of Black Mesa State Park.

Multiple wind gusts between 58 and 62 mph occurred between 1405CST and 1535CST at the mesonet site located one mile south of Black Mesa Park. The peak gust of 62 mph occurred at 1635CST.

Winds began to gust above 58 mph around 0100CDT with a max wind gust of 61 mph measured by a mesonet station near Boise City around 0635.

High Lonesome Fire in Dallam and Cimarron Counties. Fire Started on private land in Dallam County and later expanded into Cimarron County. The fire was 23,335 acres. Could not find estimated cost or cause of Fire.

Each observation site had multiple high wind gusts ranging from 58 mph to 69 mph.

Multiple ground stations measured high wind gusts, up to 67 mph, intermittently for approximately 9 hours.

Eastern parts of the county received around half of an inch of snow.

One half of an inch of snow fell across the county.

Several large branches were broken off of a hardwood tree and at least one tree was uprooted with another large hardwood tree that was snapped near the base of the trunk along E0070 Rd.

A report was received of 25 train cars laid over from thunderstorm winds. No injuries were reported.

The western third of Cimarron County received 4' to 6' of snow. Highway 287 was closed from Boise City, OK to Campo, CO due to ice, snow cover, and several accidents.
