A prolonged stretch of dangerous heat gripped southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 as a mid-level ridge remained in place over the central Plains. Afternoon high temperatures climbed into the mid to upper 90s, while oppressive humidity pushed heat index values to 112 to 124 degrees.
