Event narrative
Broadcast media through social media reported a lightning strike that impacted a residence in the Bo. Lagunas sector of Aguada. Residents reported a loud explosion-like sound and a bright flash that woke people from sleep. Minor structural damage to a wall was observed. No injuries were reported. Lightning strike occurred within outer bands associated with Hurricane Erin.
Wider weather episode
Major Hurricane Erin moved northeast and north of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Erin's Outer Bands and then Feeder Bands still affected the islands, producing strong thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rains across the islands. Several reports of wind gust damage, along with reports of high surf, flooding and debris flow were received between August 16 to 18.
