An area of overrunning precipitation overspread the Mid-Atlantic as cold air remained trapped along and east of the Alleghenies. This resulted in a period of sleet and freezing rain which resulted in a glaze to a tenth or so of ice accretion across the northern Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge.
