Northern Virginia Blue Ridge storm history

A mesonet west of Madison, VA on the northern Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains measured a peak wind gust of 60 mph at 1600 LST.

Shenandoah National Park reported numerous trees down due to ice.

Coldest apparent temperatures/wind chills overnight into morning hours.

A mesonet 2 miles NE of Blue Mountain measured a peak wind gust of 63 mph at 1314 LST (214 PM EDT). Also, a mesonet 2 miles SW of Linden, VA measured a peak wind gust of 59 mph at 1300 LST (200 PM EDT).

Significant tree damage along Skyline Drive and other parts of Shenandoah National Park.

The event continued until 6:30 EST February 1st.

Trained spotters reported a coating to an inch or snow/sleet accumulation and a coating to a tenth of an inch of ice.

NPS reported significant ice accretion resulting in a significant number of downed trees throughout Shenandoah National Park. The park remained closed for nearly a week.

Six inches of snow was reported at Big Meadows.
