Event narrative

A band of lake effect moved across the Bayfield Peninsula during the evening and early morning hours of the 29th into the 30th. This band was fairly transient by this point, but was still able to produce some very heavy snowfall in the Cornucopia area. Snowfall totals of 5 to 9 inches were reported in and near Cornucopia with a high report of 9.5 inches about six miles south of town.

Wider weather episode

A lake-effect snow band developed off the Twin Ports over western Lake Superior and moved on-shore during the afternoon and evening hours of the 29th. The band then stalled out over parts of Superior dropping 4 to 7 inches of snow before finally moving to the east into Bayfield County. An area of Bayfield County just to the south of Cornucopia saw additional enhancement with accumulations of 5 to 9 inches. Additionally, synoptic snowfall occurred over a portion of the region as well with snowfall barely reaching warning levels in Burnett County.
