Light rain developed across the southern Appalachians during the early morning hours in association with a frontal system over the Tennessee Valley. Pockets of cold air trapped along the eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge resulted in some of this precip falling as freezing rain across the northern mountains. Total ice accretion of up to one tenth of inch is reported in these areas.
