Event narrative
A winter storm moved into southeast Texas on the night of the 24th. A storm chaser shared a video on social media of sleet falling in Conroe late that night. During the early morning hours of the 25th, the ASOS station at Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport KCXO reported freezing rain. Not long after, a member of the public shared pictures on social media, showing sleet beginning to accumulate in Shenandoah (southern Montgomery County). A NWS Employee also reported that streets and highways in the area were mostly wet during the pre-dawn hours, but some parts of the road had ice glazed over them. This employee also reported around 0.20 inches of sleet. A few hours later, local law enforcement reported ice on I-45 North at SH 242. An emergency manager reported 0.06 inches of ice near Patton Village. In the aftermath of the winter precipitation, Texas department of transportation (TXDOT) reported closures on Woodlands Parkway flyover (Woodlands Parkway and I-45), for both the northbound and southbound lanes.
