A cold air mass with sub-freezing temperatures that originated from Siberia was reinforced by a major winter storm that brought a snowpack across portions of southwest Indiana on the 25th. Breezy west to northwest winds with occasional gusts around 20 mph caused dangerous intervals of wind chills between -15 to locally -18 in Vanderburgh County, IN on the 26th. Dangerous wind chills eventually came to an end during the morning hours of the 27th with wind chill values warming above -5.
