The US Drought Monitor indicated Severe (D2) Drought across the southern three-quarters of Brooks County, with Extreme (D3) Drought across the northern quarter, through December 22nd. Extreme conditions would expand to cover the northern half of the county on December 23rd, with Severe conditions remaining for all but a very small sliver of southeast Brooks. These conditions would continue through the end of the year.
Wider weather episode
Modest rainfall, seasonably dry even for the typical dry season across the southern tip of Texas, persisted through December and maintained areas of Severe (D2) to Extreme (D3) Drought in Kenedy, Brooks, Jim Hogg, far northern Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata County.
