The US Drought Monitor indicated Severe (D2) Drought across northeastern Coastal Kenedy County through December 15th. Just enough rain fell soon after to improve conditions to D1 (Moderate); these conditions would prevail until the end of the year.

Wider weather episode

Modest rainfall, seasonably dry even for the typical dry season across the southern tip of Texas, persisted through December and maintained areas of Severe (D2) to Extreme (D3) Drought in Kenedy, Brooks, Jim Hogg, far northern Hidalgo, Starr, and Zapata County.
