Coastal Kenedy storm history

The US Drought Monitor indicated Severe (D2) Drought across northeastern Coastal Kenedy County through December 15th. Just enough rain fell soon after to improve conditions to D1 (Moderate); these conditions would prevail until the end of the year.

Extreme (D3) Drought developed across the the northern third of coastal Kenedy County, on November 18th and continued through and beyond month's end. The combination of dryness, warm to hot temperatures, and very low soil moisture contributed to the worsening condition here.

A wildfire started by unknown causes occurred in brush near Penascal Rincon, in northeast Kenedy County just south of Baffin Bay. The fire burned 419 acres before being contained by early evening on May 2nd.

Rincon del San Jose in Coastal Kenedy County recorded temperatures at or below freezing for 5.5 hours (between 330 AM and 9 AM on the 17th). A minimum temperature of 29F was recorded at 8 AM on the 17th.

A Minimum Wind Chill value of 10F degrees was recorded in Rincon at 8:24 AM. The duration of temperatures within the wind chill criteria was for almost 10 hours.
