Heat in Coastal Kenedy, Texas

Heat June 17, 2026 · Coastal Kenedy, Texas

What the National Weather Service wrote

By proxy with observations in the Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS) at Brooks County Airport near Falfurrias, about 10 miles west of the County line, and historical interpolation with Sarita, as well as distant proxy from observations at Cameron County Airport, it was likely that heat index values reached 111 during the early to mid afternoon. Air temperatures reached the mid to upper 90s and combined with high humidity left behind from rainfall earlier in the week.

The wider storm

As developing Tropical Storm Arthur moved along the middle Texas coast (June 17) and as a degenerated low pressure system along the Louisiana Coast (June 18), very hot air descended on the southern tip of Texas, with record extreme heat index, or feels-like, temperatures for the entire region on the 18th. The high heat index values held on into June 19th, before unsettled weather brought slightly lower temperatures and pockets of rain by the 20th, which ended the short but brutal window of extreme heat.
