Winter Storm in Westmoreland Ridges, Pennsylvania

Widespread snow accumulation generally ranging from 8 to 12 inches in general was reported across the the ridges of Westmoreland County with the highest total of 12 inches near Donegal.

An Alberta clipper crossing the Ohio River Valley brought widespread, synoptic snow to the region. With deep moisture and strong cold advection, snow ratios were near 20:1 on average with dry/fluffy snow characteristics. Embedded snow bands resulted in locally higher amounts, up to over a foot. County averages ranged from 4 to 9 inches with the highest amounts south and east of Pittsburgh, especially the higher elevations of Westmoreland and Fayette Counties.
