Strong Wind in Harrison, West Virginia
Strong Wind February 20, 2026 · Harrison, West Virginia
The wider storm
In the wake of a cold front on the morning of February 20th, gusty to strong post-frontal wind gusts took hold across West Virginia. This was due to a tightened pressure gradient that formed overhead, creating strong winds aloft that were capable of mixing down to the surface. This resulted in observed wind gusts on the order of 45 to 57 miles per hour across the state, which caused downed trees and power lines in many West Virginia counties. Impacts from the strong winds waned by the late evening hours on the 20th as high pressure encroached from the west.
