The wider storm
Without any significant rainfall across the region, dry conditions persisted through much of April and resulted in multiple days of critical fire weather conditions. On April 18th and on the 23rd, warm temperatures combined with an extremely low relative humidity that dropped below 10 percent and southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. These conditions resulted in the development and spread of a couple of wildfires across the Texas Panhandle.
