Oldham storm history

One inch of ice accumulation from freezing rain was reported at Vaga. Some sleet also occurred. At 10:00 PM on the 26th, a vehicle accident was reported on Interstate 40 near Vega resulting in three fatalities. One quarter inch of ice accumulation was reported at that time.

Severe wind gusts started at 2017CDT and continued through 2037CDT with peak wind gust of 64mph occurring at 2031CDT.

An outflow boundary moved through the mesonet site located six miles west-southwest of Adrian and produced a wind gust of 58mph.

The first severe wind gust of 59mph occurred at 2010 CDT, with another 58mph wind gust measured at 2012 CDT and the last 59mph wind gust at 2014 CDT.

Hail dented cars as well as some windows were knocked out of a house.

A large tree was blown down in the front yard of a residence. Multiple trees were blown down in the area.

Hail fell around Vega. Most of the hailstones were quarter size but a few were up to golfball size.

The mesonet site located 11 miles south of Romero measured multiple wind gusts in excess of 58 mph between 1339 CST and 1526 CST. The peak wind gust was 64mph and this occurred at 1449 CST.

The Vega 4E mesonet recorded a wind gust of 58mph at 1544 CST.

Each observation site had dozens of high wind gusts from 58 mph to 78 mph, with the highest concentration of high wind gusts between 0830CDT to 1330CDT. The estimated average sustained wind speed in that period was 45-50 mph.

A few high wind gusts occurred at a couple of ground stations in the county. Wind gusts up to 66 mph were recorded. The event lasted for about 2 hours.

At least a dozen auto accidents occurred in the county. Some were along Interstate 40 from mile marker 9 to mile marker 44. There was an accident at U.S. Highway 385 and FM 1061.

A swath of 6 to 12 of snow fell across much of the I-40 corridor through Oldham County with 2 to 5 found towards the New Mexico state line. Amounts decreased to the north and northwest as well.

Wind gusts of 58 mph or greater were measured for 5 minutes beginning at 1827CDT.

The strongest wind gust measured was 79mph and occurred at 817pm CDT. There were multiple gusts of 60mph or greater that occurred for nearly ten minutes.

Severe wind gusts occurred for three minutes with the strongest being 65mph at 821pm CDT.

Quarter to golfball size hail fell to the west of Adrian. A house was hit with dime to quarter size hail, but the worst part of the storm stayed just west of its location.

A couple of mesonet stations located in the county measured wind gusts in excess of 58 mph throughout the afternoon of the 8th. The peak gust of 70 mph was measured at 1502CST by the mesonet located 11 miles SSW of Romero.
