What EF0 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF0 is light damage: shingles and siding peeled, gutters torn, branches broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 65–85 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

This second tornado in northeastern Morgan County was an EF-0 that began as the first Morgan County tornado ended, at 2154 EST. This EF-0 spin-up tracked for almost a mile to the east-northeast through the Five Points area, from 115 yards south-southwest of the intersection of North Kitchen Road and East Sping Lake Road, to the northern end of Ruth Lane. Tracking nearly-parallel to, while slowly crossing, East Spring Lake Road, the tornado snapped or uprooted several large healthy hardwood and softwood trees, with ground spallter being found on several homes and barns. Peak winds were 85 mph.

The wider storm

On April 27, 2026, an upper-level shortwave trough and an associated deepening surface low-pressure system tracked across the Midwest. South of the low's path, a sufficiently unstable warm sector surged into central Indiana, characterized by rich boundary-layer moisture and strong low and deep layer wind shear. This setup supported multiple rounds of severe convection resulting in numerous damaging wind gusts or large hail reports. Three tornadoes also occurred between Jackson and Morgan Counties, along with flash flooding in Knox and Marion Counties.

Began near Five Pts (39.5880, -86.3173).
