What EF1 means. On the Enhanced Fujita scale, EF1 is moderate damage: roofs badly stripped, mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned, windows broken, consistent with estimated gusts of 86–110 mph. The rating comes from a survey of the worst damage after the storm, not from a wind measurement, so it says as much about what the tornado hit as about how strong it was.

What the National Weather Service wrote

A weak tornado formed in a field on the west side of Carter Lane

in Rose Bud. Several snapped trees were visible in the tree-line

in the distance. The tornado then crossed Carter Lane into a

field and across several more tree-lines. Multiple breaks in tree

lines were observed before the widest point of damage occurred.

Multiple trees were uprooted or snapped in a field along an

approximately 100 yard stretch. The tornado then began to weaken

as it pushed further southeast approaching County Line Road. As

it crossed County Line Road, it broke large branches off a few

trees before lifting further into the woods in White County. This

tornado was rated and EF-1 with 100 mph winds with a peak width of

approximately 100 yards.
