What the National Weather Service wrote
A National Weather Service Cleveland storm survey determined that a brief tornado touched down in central Crawford County near Leimbach Road at approximately 4:29 PM EDT. The tornado touched down west of Leimbach Road and north of Double Hill Road, then moved generally east-southeast. Damage consisted primarily of snapped and uprooted trees. Several trees were snapped near the point of touchdown, and a falling tree clipped and damaged a well-constructed detached garage. As the tornado crossed Leimbach Road, several large hardwood trees were uprooted. The fallen trees were oriented toward the northeast, consistent with the localized tornadic wind field despite the tornado's overall east-southeast movement. Based on the observed damage, maximum wind speeds were estimated at 95 mph, yielding an EF-1 tornado rating. The tornado had an estimated maximum width of 50 yards and produced a short, intermittent damage path before dissipating.
The wider storm
A line of thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front Sunday afternoon and moved southeast across Lake Erie into portions of Northwest Pennsylvania. Storms became strong to severe as they moved southeast over the Lake Erie Islands and towards the lakeshore, bringing damaging wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph. Storms continued to intensify as they continued east to southeast into Northwest Pennsylvania, resulting in peak wind gusts in excess of 70 mph at times and hail slightly larger than quarters, particularly near the OH/PA border across Northwest Pennsylvania where a few tornadoes also occurred. At the height of the event, over 150,000 power outages were reported across Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania.
