Event narrative
An overrunning snow event occurred with a low moving onshore the central Southeast Alaska panhandle the evening of the 26th. The coop at Hidden Inlet received 21.5 inches of snow by 8 AM AKST the 27th with a storm total of 24 inches. A public spotter near Hyder estimated 12 to 14 inches of snow the morning of the 27th.
Wider weather episode
A gale force low developed as it moved from the central Pacific Ocean across the central Gulf of Alaska, before moving over the central panhandle. Cold arctic air was entrenched across the inner channels of Southeast Alaska as the system was approaching, leading to a significant snowfall event for the southern panhandle.
