What the National Weather Service wrote
Heavy rains caused Nolan Creek to swell and flow quickly. A boy's body was found two days later downstream near Harker Heights. He apparently fell into the creek behind his house on the Fort Hood military base.
The wider storm
An upper low pressure system situated to the west brought large scale lift to north Texas. Southerly winds brought deep rich moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. These and other factors caused numerous thunderstorms to develop. Widespread flooding and wind damage followed, as well as a few tornadoes.
Began near Killeen (31.1300, -97.7300).
