Event narrative
A 41-year-old male was struck and died the next day from a lightning strike while fishing with his 10-year-old son on Takanassee Lake Beach in Long Branch. His son was not injured.

An approaching cold front helped trigger scattered strong to severe thunderstorms across New Jersey mainly during the second half of the afternoon and the early part of the evening. One lightning related death occurred in Monmouth county.
