A 47 mph wind gust was recorded at the Johnny Mercer Pier. A 44 mph gust was recorded a few minutes later.

Wider weather episode

Although the center of Hurricane Sandy remained well offshore, tropical storm force winds were experienced, mainly along the coast of North Carolina. Coastal flooding was also observed.
