Event narrative
Heavy rain from training thunderstorms fell on saturated ground. While most of the heaviest rain fell to the east of Calcasieu Parish flooding was still reported around the Iowa area. Portions of Highway 165 were flooded along with numerous roads around the Iowa area. Dozens of homes had flood waters enter them around the Iowa area.
Wider weather episode
A stalled frontal boundary along with multiple impulses aloft lead to an extended duration of rain, thunderstorms, and even a couple tornadoes. Massive flooding occurred along the Mermentau River where rainfall totals exceeded one foot at some locations during the event. Flood waters slowly drained over a couple of weeks.
