Event narrative

Escalante received 18.5 inches of snow over a 48-hour period. Since records began in Escalante in 1901, this was the thirteenth highest snow total over a 3 calendar day period, and the highest value ever recorded earlier in the season than January.

Wider weather episode

The same storm system that brought strong winds to northern Utah also brought heavy snowfall to the southern half of the state. This storm was unusually cold and snowy for southern Utah, particularly this early in the season.
