Event narrative
An automobile encountered an icy patch on Route 687 two tenths of a mile west of Route 793, causing the automobile to slide off the road and down an enbankment where it struck a tree. The driver was killed in the accident.

An Alberta clipper cold front passed across the central Appalachian Mountains, supported aloft by a strong upper level trough. Very high environmental lapse rates resulted in bands of heavy snow with rapid accumulations, while cold temperatures resulted in high liquid to snow ratios for this event.
