Event narrative

Dense fog, combined with smoke, contributed to a 13 vehicle pileup on Interstate 10 near Grand Bay. Light fog was locally enhanced by smoke, resulting in very low visibilities. When traffic abrubtly encountered the sharply lower visibilities, the motorists began suddenly slamming on their brakes, and this resulting in a chain reaction pileup. A dozen people were injured, but none of the injuries were life threatening.
