Nineteen people were injured when a severe thunderstorm collapsed a tent at an Irish Festival at Jack Frost Mountain. Maximum wind gusts were estimated between 75 and 80 mph. A section of the 50-by-150 foot main tent was lifted by the severe thunderstorm and then collapsed. Most of the injuries occurred to people under the tent and were mainly gashes and bruises. One girl was seriously injured (broken ribs and head injuries) and was flown to a Danville Hospital. The severe thunderstorm also uprooted about 20 to 25 trees. Two trees fell on vehicles. Occupants within one vehicle were not injured. Several trees also struck the main tent. The thunderstorm overturned benches and picnic tables and dropped hail as large as walnuts.
