Wider weather episode

Rip currents helped claim the life of a 37-year-old man in Avon. The man was swimming alone and standing on a sandbar when a wave knocked him over. Rescuers had a hard time fighting the currents to save him. He was pulled unconscious from the surf and died on October 1st from multiple organ failures. A high pressure system built over New England during the evening of the 28th and the morning of the 29th. Northeast flow around this high along the ocean usually enhances both the number and strength of rip currents.
